2018 Sep 13 - Aspirin-Exacerbated Respiratory Disease

2018 Aug 2 - Four Months of Rifampin or Nine Months of Isoniazid for Latent Tuberculosis in Adults

A 9-month regimen of isoniazid can prevent active tuberculosis in persons with LTBI. However, the regimen has been associated with poor adherence rates and with toxic effects.  In this study, the 4-month regimen of rifampin was found to be not inferior to the 9-month regimen of isoniazid for the prevention of active tuberculosis and was associated with a higher rate of treatment completion and better safety.

2018 Jun 14 - A Pragmatic Trial of E-Cigarettes, Incentives, and Drugs for Smoking Cessation

Whether financial incentives, pharmacologic therapies, and e-cigarettes promote smoking cessation among unselected smokers is unknown. In this pragmatic trial of smoking cessation, financial incentives added to free cessation aids resulted in a higher rate of sustained smoking abstinence than free cessation aids alone. Among smokers who received usual care, the addition of free cessation aids or e-cigarettes did not provide a benefit.

2018 July - Aggressive versus symptom-guided drainage of malignant pleural effusion via indwelling pleural catheters (AMPLE-2): an open-label randomised trial

The optimal regimen of drainage for malignant pleural effusion after IPC insertion is debated and ranges from aggressive (daily) drainage to drainage only when symptomatic. This study found no differences between the two drainage regimens for IPC  in providing breathlessness control.

2018 Jul - Stratification by interferon-γ release assay level predicts risk of incident TB

Introduction Targeted testing and treatment of latent TB infection (LTBI) are priorities on the global health agenda, but LTBI management remains challenging. In this study, QuantiFERON TB-Gold (QFT) demonstrates increased risk of incident TB with rising IFN-γ concentrations, indicating that IFN-γ levels may be used to guide targeted treatment of LTBI.
